    Hey Baha’i musicians,
I had a wonderful time at the 50th Annual Greenlake Conference a couple of weeks ago at Greenlake, Wisconisin. There were some wonderful musicians there and I performed in the devotions and coffee house. I want to come to Bosch if at all possible. Hopefully I will have my CD Create in Me finished by then, ten songs of which you can hear at myspace.com/briancarlson19
I would love to hear your responses to the work and hope to meet many of you.

Well we did it. We had another great weekend of music and learning in the redwoods.

Now, tell me what workshops you would like to have next year Oct 22-25, 2009.

    Consider This:

I was talking with a friend and fellow musician about our Music Industry Weekend. His first reaction was: NO!, I WANT NO PART of an Industry that has become “a fashion show with music”. (good one!)

Well, he is talking about the old industry which was about ‘packaging a product’ and didn’t build those now-essential performer-fan relationships. Here’s what Producer Jarome Matthew has to say:

“Now in the digital age, packaging is irrelevant, but good music, songs, production and talent are what it is ALL about. It has all but completely gone back to the artist. But … all you read about is how downloading is ruining the music business, and that’s just a lot of propaganda – corporate bull! Downloading is only ruining billion dollar corporate interests by putting the music business back in the hands of the artists and music creators, which is great… NOW, Artists need to know how to promote themselves and WHAT TO DO. That’s what I’ll share in my workshop at Bosch.”

I hope all this gives our talented young artists hope, and that they come to Bosch and learn more!

    HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
to all you Dads out there.

I often joke that Fathers are bankers provided by God. Nonetheless there are special gifts that flow to me simply because I am one.

I’ve decided that the best gift children can give dad on Father’s Day, is their own happiness. Nothing makes this dad more content than seeing his kids happy, and living with that “attitude of gratitude”.

Have a great day. And express your own joy and gratitude to whoever might be “Dad” in your life.

The following is a description of TwoFest from their page in Facebook:

THE TWO FEST ’08: ‘TAKE BACK THE PLANET’:

Two Fest 2008 is a global roots tri-city event using the power of music to ‘Take Back the Planet’!

This explosive musical collaboration with a ‘call to action’ around environmental solutions lands in British Columbia.

Nanaimo June 19th, 2008 Port Theatre

Tickets are very affordable – under $20.
Two Fest producer Todd Khozein say’s “Two Fest is more than just a concert. It’s not just an event that comes and fades into people’s memories. It is a total collaboration wherein we’ll use the power of talented musicians and pour that energy into desperately needed action. We have two choices…we can either wither in the face environmental catastrophe or, as one unified community, we can take back our planet.”
Two Fest Executive Director Sally Glover, well known for her community involvement says, “It’s an honor to be a part of a community rich in expertise and passion. People not only want to do business in a sustainable manner, they want to share their ideas and expertise and completely support initiatives like 2 Fest. They’ll be on hand in the Enviro Market Place with ‘green’ organizations to help fest-goers to take ‘easy access’ actions to reduce household carbon footprints”. Prizes, free samples and green incentives and Bounty’s (www.bountyup.com)

Harri, You may not play an instrument or sing, but I’d dare say no one has more first-hand experience with the Baha’i global music scene than you. I’d love to see all those guys at our Music weekend this year.

Can you tell more about the “Twofest Events” in Vancouver? ///D

  • Harri Peltola 5:23 pm on June 5, 2008 | # | Reply

I am looking forward to attending the Weekend again this year, although I still cannot sing or play any instrument To make up for such blatant lack of talent, I’ll do my utmost to bring my son along as well who can. However, if you want to add a link to my music (i.e. mostly my lyrics), you can give me the titles of promoter, producer and lyrics writer.

With reference to Michael’s comment on the lack of the younger generation of Baha’i musicians, I tried to advertise the Weekend to Eric Picotte-Harper, Andy Grammer and Devon Gundry when I visited them last fall. From my point of view, it would be a great enhancement if we could enjoy performances by the Dawnbreaker Collective (feat. Andy and Devon as well as Tara Ellis, Benny Cassette &al.). I saw them perform at the Baha’i Arts Festival in England last January, and I was thrilled (felt about 30 years younger). Another great act is Bella Canto (feat. Eric). I am hoping to see this one perform at the TwoFest events that Todd Khozein is organizing in Vancouver this month (June). I would love to have both of these bands for a tour of Northern Europe some day.

I want to appeal to our younger participants to recruit their musical friends to attend. We’ve had every genre represented at least once throughout the years. Hip-Hop welcomed! Perhaps Jon Rezin and Jupiter Lovejoy could contribute to this topic. ///Darrell

Having missed the last two, looking at last year’s pictures made me really sad to have missed it. There were many incredible musicians, most of whom I have had the pleasure of working with, at some level, over the years. I would love to see them all back, this next year.

However, looking at the pictures, it appears as if many of the younger artists were absent. How can we get them to the next one?

I hope to see you at our 6th Annual Music Industry Weekend at Bosch Baha’i School. Our objective is foster collaboration among Baha’i musicians and music industry professionals and contribute to the continual improvement of music for and by the Baha’i community.
